Wet End of Year Forecasted – Ensure Your Business is Prepared
Facebook

In early October, the Bureau of Meteorology released their climate forecast for the rest of 2020 and into January 2021.

They are predicting a wet end to the year, particularly during November, across much of Australia. We are currently at around a 70% chance of La Nina forming and modelling suggests that the Indian Ocean Diople (IOD) index could meet negative threshold values; the combination of these events means that we are likely to see above average rainfall across the eastern two thirds of the country in particular.

So, what does this mean for Australian businesses?

In short, things are likely to get pretty wet. Whilst farmers and environmentalists welcome any additional rain, extra water and moisture can wreak havoc on other industries. Accidents and damage are more likely to occur, which could end up costing you in both money and time.

At iQSafety, we offer a number of wet weather solutions that can help you to avoid many potential accidents and damage from occurring.

Roof Leak Diverters

Destruction from falling branches and pooling water can lead to leaks in your roof, which in turn can create slipping hazards within your premises and/or result in your valuable equipment or product being damaged. Roof leak diverters can be quickly and efficiently deployed whenever a leak occurs, ensuring that your premises is protected whilst you await repairs. As their name suggests, diverters are designed to redirect water away from your equipment and products, into a drain in most cases to ensure that clean-up is a breeze.

If leaks are a common occurrence in your roof, diverters can also be deployed as a more permanent preventative measure. The non-permeable and vinyl-coated materials used in our diverters make them resistant to punctures, mildew and damage from UV exposure. This makes them able to be used for extended periods of time without issue.

Flood Guards for Tents

The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic has meant that many services have moved to mobile facilities in order to comply with social distancing guidelines. Some services that may have gone mobile include transportation and logistical support, field hospitals and laboratories, testing and research (to name a few). With tents being a popular facility due to their portability and ease of deployment, it’s no surprise that a little water could quickly wash out whatever service you’re trying to provide.

Our flood guards are designed to prevent water from running into the sidewalls of tents and other outdoor structures. They also provide water activated flood protection, which means they can be put into place when the tent is erected but the blocker will not start to swell unless it comes into contact with water.

Grippy & High Traffic Absorbent Mats

The presence of water in high traffic areas of your premises, from entrances to major walkways, poses a real slipping hazard. The addition of absorbent traffic and grippy mats can help to reduce these hazards, whilst also providing value for money. All of our mats feature an adhesive backing, which keeps them in place (even when sopping wet) and eliminates the need for unsightly tapes and trays. This also helps to eliminate common hazards with rubber-backed mats, such as curling, bunching and flipping over.

These mats can also be taken up and replaced with ease; the adhesive backing won’t leave behind any residue. Keep in mind that these mats are not designed to last forever and they must be changed out regularly – how often will depend on the type you have chosen and the location it has been deployed.

Spill Bunds

If drainage is a problem around your premises, increased rain or roof leaks can lead to water pooling and create slipping hazards. Spill bunds or containment barriers can help to protect major thoroughfares from water by sealing tight against the floor and blocking it from progressing further, instead directing it into a drain or even into the garden (when used outdoors). Using them in a driveway or warehouse floor where vehicles are present? Opt for our drive over barrier for the best of both worlds.

Bunds also help to minimise clean up, allowing you to get on with more important tasks without compromising on safety, and can be reused – all you need to do is take them up and give them a thorough clean with soap and water. This also means that you can pack containment barriers away at drier times of year and only deploy them when required.

Spill Kits

Designed for rapid response to water hazards, spill kits contain everything you need to deal with a leak or flooding as quickly and efficiently as possible. We have a variety of kits to choose from – small can manage up to 20 litres, medium up to 101 litres, large up to 227 litres, and extra large up to 630 litres. Choose a kit based on the volume of water you expect to deal with most often. Kits are also colour coded to make it easy to grab the right one at a moment’s notice. Refills are also available, allowing you to replenish your kit once it has been deployed to clean up a spill.

Have you ever arrived at a site only to realise that work cannot commence due to the presence of water hazards? We offer transportable kits for forklifts and trucks, ensuring that you can deal with water hazards even whilst on the move.

Drain Covers

It may seem counterintuitive, but drain covers can be a vital component of your businesses’ wet weather solution. Certain processes, from manufacturing and cleaning to packaging and laboratory work, can mean that substances are left on floor surfaces. When flooding or leaks occur, the water can lift these substances and carry them into stormwater drains, which can be harmful to wildlife and water supplies.

Drain covers and blockers create an airtight seal over the drain, preventing contaminated water from passing through. They can be deployed quickly and are incredibly durable – we have options that can withstand the weight of heavy vehicles and that can be left in place for up to 12 months without issue. They are also resistant to UV, infrared light and chemicals – even when fully submerged.
